We were tasked with implementing a full-blown website redesign and introducing a native staff management portal. Thanks to this, Mooseheads won back countless lost staff hours and quadrupled their function space bookings.

Slothish website load times and usability issues were a buzz-kill for both visitors and exasperated staff. The website became the daily pitfall of Mooseheads Marketing & Events Manager, Ryan Dyson. Bogged down by monotonous tasks, our project aimed to boost his efficiency by automating two core time-consuming tasks – staff training and content management.
Mooseheads have a massive staff roster, with new bartenders, bouncers and guest DJs needing inductions on the weekly. This was Ryan’s responsibility, who found this process unnecessarily time consuming and unsustainable. Our solution was to create a fully automated staff training and induction portal that new employees could engage with any time and anywhere.
Ryan faced a constant uphill battle to keep up-to-date with his web content. Visitors to the website were put off, unable to easily locate the event bookings portal or the latest photos from a Saturday night. By transforming the Mooseheads website, we set out to help Mooseheads stay on top of their social media and events game.
Our team worked closely with Mooseheads to ensure each of these problems were directly smoothed out, designing a website that looked as good as it worked.
There are two types of Mooseheads patrons - the ‘pub-crawling beer punters’ and the ‘vodka-raspberry party people’. We redesigned the site to appeal equally to both of these audiences by creating two different user pathways. When you hit the landing page, you’re greeted with a clear choose-your-own-adventure selection - Pub or Nightclub.
Every weekend, hundreds of revellers are snapped at Mooseheads having a great night out with friends. Before our redesign, Ryan was having to manually upload identical albums on both social media and the website. To solve this, we created an automated image gallery using API’s to pull the photographs directly from Facebook seamlessly onto the website. Integrating Ryan’s social media management has resulted in less double-handling and a smoother workflow.
“It has already saved us hours in back-of-system work which frees us up to focus more on the business,” says Ryan.
“From a back-end functionality focus, it is not only easier to navigate and create changes to the website, but makes us actually want to make changes and updates as the task is no longer a daunting one. From a small business standpoint, this is crucial,” he continued.
The old Moose website was ineffective at converting clicks into sales; it lacked a clear call to action button or portal to make a booking enquiry. Our goal was to make a site that maximized web traffic and kept audiences engaged for longer.
“The website allows our customers to information search with ease and the ‘big call to action’ buttons are very hard to miss,” says Ryan.
To make new staff integration simple, a custom web portal was developed to automate the staff training and induction process. It allowed new staff to track their progress by completing the training program and quickly upload required documents based on their role as either security, bartender or glassie.
“The online induction portal has been amazing. In the hospitality industry, employee turnover is excessively high. Mude has helped us create an easy and secure online induction system that allows new employees to go through the induction process and submit all their documents in the comfort of their own home.”
We built an intuitive CMS that ensured that even the most technologically-challenged Mooseheads staff were able to create new training programs and roles without needing our consultation.
Prior to handover, we provided training sessions and a definitive CMS guide for Ryan and his staff to guarantee smooth integration with their existing workflow and processes.
Within a week of launching, Mooseheads experienced an almost instantaneous 400% increase in booking enquiries. Mooseheads has always been the heart of Canberra’s good-time culture – but until now, their website didn’t represent that.
